An Oakland County resident has claimed a $150,000 Powerball prize through the Michigan Lottery. Kathryn Peltier of Highland matched four white balls and the Powerball in the September 1 drawing. The initial prize was $50,000 but increased to $150,000 because she opted for the Power Play feature when purchasing her ticket online at MichiganLottery.com.
Peltier explained her decision to play: “I saw the Powerball jackpot was over $1 billion and thought to myself: ‘You can’t win if you don’t play,’ so I logged into my Lottery account and bought a few tickets,” said Peltier. “The next morning, I was checking my email when I got to work and saw an email from the Michigan Lottery about claiming my prize. I assumed it was a small win, so it was amazing when I logged in and saw $150,000 in my account!
“I showed my coworker my account balance and asked: ‘How many zeros is this?’ to confirm I was reading it right, then I called my husband to tell him the news. This prize is going to change our life!”
After visiting lottery headquarters to claim her winnings, Peltier stated she plans to use the money to pay off her home and vehicles before saving what remains.
Powerball tickets are available for purchase at retailers throughout Michigan as well as online at MichiganLottery.com. Players can add features such as "Power Play," which increases non-jackpot prizes up to ten times for an extra dollar per play with a maximum payout of $2 million. Another option is Double Play, which gives players an additional chance each night for up to $10 million for another dollar per play.
Drawings occur every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 p.m., with live streams accessible via http://www.powerball.com. Tickets are sold in 45 states plus Washington D.C., U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico.
