At a meeting held on September 10 in Bellaire, the Michigan Aeronautics Commission (MAC) and the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) announced the recipients of the 2025 Award of Excellence for achievements in aviation. The event was organized alongside the Michigan Association of Airport Executives (MAAE) fall conference.

The Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP), based in Washington, D.C., was recognized for its two decades of contributions to the aviation industry. ACRP is managed by the Transportation Research Board under the National Academies of Sciences Engineering and Medicine. The organization has been credited with providing research, collaboration, and innovation that have improved airport operations, safety, and sustainability.

Charlie Tyson, technology activation director at the Michigan Economic Development Corp.'s Office of Future Mobility and Electrification, received an award for his leadership in advancing aviation technology initiatives within Michigan. Tyson’s work includes supporting programs that improve safety, efficiency, and sustainability in advanced aerial mobility across the state.

Bryan Budds, MAC director and MDOT Office of Aeronautics administrator, stated: "I want to extend my heartfelt appreciation to the award winners for their hard work and dedication to Michigan aviation. The MAC, MDOT and the aviation community truly appreciate these efforts that have not gone unnoticed and will solidify our efforts as a leader in aviation."

The MAC oversees aeronautics within Michigan and regularly recognizes individuals and organizations whose contributions have led to improvements in facilities, operations or public relations supporting aviation throughout the state.
