The Michigan Lottery is marking Responsible Gaming Education Month in September by raising awareness about prevention, treatment, and recovery services available for gambling-related issues in the state.
As part of this effort, the Lottery is reminding players that support is available through the National Problem Gambling Helpline. The helpline offers confidential assistance around the clock at 1-800-GAMBLER. Players can also access chat and text support options via www.michiganlottery.com.
“Since 1972, the Michigan Lottery has been committed to promoting responsible gaming practices,” said Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli. “As part of our commitment to ensure gaming remains fun and safe for our players, we provide several responsible gaming tools and resources to find help. Players can visit MichiganLottery.com/responsible-gaming for more information.”
The Lottery allocates $2 million each year to a compulsive gaming prevention fund managed by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. This fund supports education and treatment programs across Michigan focused on problem gambling.
Online lottery players have access to safeguards such as self-exclusion periods, daily and weekly deposit limits, daily loss limits, cool-off periods, age verification during account registration, and play history monitoring. Additional information about warning signs of problem gambling is available on the Michigan Lottery’s website at https://news.michiganlottery.com/RG.
Michigan Lottery has emphasized responsible gaming since its founding in 1972. In 2015, it became the first lottery in the United States to receive Internet Compliance Assessment Program (iCAP) certification from the National Council on Problem Gambling for its online gaming standards. The organization has also received Responsible Gaming Verification (RG Verification) certification from both the North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries and the NCPG. More details about these programs are available through links about iCAP and RG Verification.
