A Genesee County resident, Thomas Clark of Clio, has claimed a $150,000 Powerball prize from the Michigan Lottery. Clark matched four white balls and the Powerball—16-19-34-37-64 PB: 22—in the August 25 drawing. The initial prize was $50,000, but because Clark had selected the Power Play option on his ticket, his winnings were tripled to $150,000.
Clark purchased his winning ticket at Conlee Country Store in Clio, located about 15 miles northwest of Flint. He explained how he discovered the amount: “I play Powerball and Mega Millions whenever the jackpot starts getting up there,” said Clark. “I scanned my ticket at the store and got a message to file a claim at the Lottery office. I forgot I added Power Play to my ticket, so I thought I’d only won $50,000. It was quite the surprise when I scanned the ticket on the app and $150,000 came up on the screen!”
At age 54, Clark visited Michigan Lottery headquarters to collect his prize. He stated that he plans to use his winnings for home improvements, paying bills, and saving what remains.
Powerball tickets are available for purchase at retailers across Michigan and online through https://www.michiganlottery.com/. The Power Play feature multiplies non-jackpot prizes by up to ten times for an extra dollar per play; Double Play is also available for another dollar per play and gives players a second chance to win up to $10 million in nightly drawings.
Powerball drawings occur every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 p.m., with live broadcasts accessible at http://www.powerball.com. Tickets are sold in 45 states as well as Washington D.C., U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico.
