Governor Gretchen Whitmer has declared August as Home Visiting Month in Michigan for the fifth consecutive year. The proclamation highlights the contributions of various organizations, including the Michigan Public Health Institute (MPHI), to the state's home visiting system.
The proclamation states: “Whereas, state and local partnerships including but not limited to Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, Michigan Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential, Center for Quality Family Support, Michigan Public Health Institute, Head Start, Intermediate School Districts, Local Health Departments, and other public and private organizations collaborate to assess, grow and improve home visiting services, supporting families from prenatal through school entry.”
MPHI’s Center for Healthy Communities (CHC) is a key partner in these efforts. The CHC supports both state agencies and Local Implementing Agencies that deliver direct services to families across Michigan. Their work includes quality improvement initiatives, program evaluation, data management and analysis, professional development coordination, training activities, participation in leadership groups, quality assurance processes, and needs assessments.
In 2023 alone, more than 19,500 families received support from one of eight home visiting models operating throughout the state.
“MPHI is grateful for the support and recognition from the state as we continue to provide services that improve the health and wellbeing of all children and families,” MPHI stated.
