An Oakland County resident has claimed a $2 million top prize after playing the Michigan Lottery’s Colossal Cashword instant game. The 34-year-old winner, who asked to remain anonymous, said the game is his preferred choice.

“Colossal Cashword is my go-to game,” he said. “I scratched the ticket right after I bought it and was excited when I got nine words. When I got the 10th word for a $2 million prize, I was in total shock. Winning is such a great feeling!”

Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli offered her congratulations, stating: “Scratching off a $2 million winning ticket is the type of thing Lottery players dream of, and it became a reality for this lucky player who won a Colossal Cashword top prize! Congratulations to the player on his incredible win!”

The winning ticket was purchased at USA 2 GO Quick Store on Grand River Road in Brighton. The winner visited Lottery headquarters to claim his prize and opted for a lump sum payment of about $1.3 million instead of annuity payments over time. He plans to use his winnings to pay off student loans and buy a new car.

Colossal Cashword launched in September 2023 with each $30 ticket offering prizes from $30 up to $2 million. Since its launch, players have won more than $96 million through this game, with more than $21 million still available in prizes including five worth $10,000 and thirty-seven worth $5,000.

In 2024 alone, instant games have awarded nearly $1.8 billion to Michigan Lottery players statewide.

Instant lottery tickets are available at retailers throughout Michigan.
