The Health Information Technology Commission (HITC) Community Information Exchange (CIE) Advisory Committee is currently accepting applications for its Community Voice Subgroup. The HITC, part of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, was established in 2006 under Public Act 137. In 2023, the commission implemented the CIE Task Force Final Report and formed the CIE Advisory Committee to develop statewide infrastructure supporting community information exchange.
Community information exchange facilitates connecting individuals to health, human, and social services by integrating various data systems used by organizations across Michigan. The CIE Advisory Committee focuses on consumer and participant experiences, incorporating formal mechanisms for community involvement in decision-making processes. The Community Voice Subgroup will assist in guiding state-level policy development and implementing community information exchange effectively.
Examples of community information exchange include partnerships between clinics and transportation nonprofits to provide seniors with rides to medical appointments or local organizations sharing data about emergency shelter availability.
The subgroup will consist mainly of individuals with lived experience in CIE systems, their caregivers or guardians, and representatives from both public and private sectors. Interested applicants are encouraged to review the subcommittee charter on the Community Voice Subgroup website before applying. Meetings will occur six times annually for 90 minutes each session, beginning in late 2025. Sessions will be held virtually unless agreed otherwise in advance. Applications must be submitted by Friday, August 15.
