An Oakland County woman recently won $4 million playing the Michigan Lottery's Electric 300s instant game. The 77-year-old winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, discovered her win in a Kroger parking lot after scratching off her ticket.
"I play scratch-off tickets all the time and the $30 tickets are my favorite," she said. "I scratched the ticket in my car in the store parking lot when I was done shopping. When I saw I won $4 million, I was frozen in my seat for a while."
She shared the news with her husband, who initially struggled to believe it even after seeing the ticket. They plan to surprise their family with the announcement soon.
Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli commented on the win: "The Michigan Lottery offers more than 100 instant games which give players the chance to win life-changing prizes. In this case, the lucky player went grocery shopping and left the store a millionaire! It is great to hear that she plans to use her big win to help others by donating and sharing with her family."
The winning ticket was purchased at a Kroger store located at 670 Highland Avenue in Milford. The winner opted for annual payments of approximately $133,000 over 30 years instead of a one-time lump sum of $2.7 million. She intends to use her winnings for home repairs, donations, and family support.
The Michigan Lottery also announced an opportunity for players to participate in a $1,000,000 Electric Giveaway by scanning non-winning Electric family tickets on their mobile app by August 24. Five finalists will be chosen for a live event at Comerica Park where one will win a $1 million prize.
Since its launch in June, players have won over $15 million playing Electric 300s. Each $30 ticket offers prizes from $30 up to $4 million, with more than $133 million still available in prizes.
In 2024, nearly $1.8 billion was won by players through instant games offered by the lottery.
