Yesterday, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel, along with 19 other attorneys general, achieved a preliminary injunction against the Trump Administration. This legal action prevents the administration from withholding federal transportation funding as a means to enforce immigration policies. The coalition filed a lawsuit in May after new conditions were imposed that required state agencies to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement or face losing significant funds for transportation infrastructure.

Attorney General Nessel expressed satisfaction with the court's decision, stating: “I am pleased the Court recognized the Trump Administration’s attempt to retroactively change the terms of already appropriated funding as unlawful.” She emphasized that states should not be forced into federal immigration enforcement by threatening essential infrastructure funding. With this injunction, Michigan can continue its efforts to maintain and ensure road safety. Nessel reaffirmed her commitment to safeguarding resources vital for state progress.

The coalition includes attorneys general from California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaiʻi, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Washington, Wisconsin and Vermont.
