Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has reached an agreement with MRD Apartments to address allegations concerning water service issues at Prentis Estates Apartments in Howell. The Department of Attorney General conducted an informal investigation to determine if the Michigan Consumer Protection Act was violated. The Assurance of Voluntary Compliance (AVC) was filed in the 30th Judicial Circuit Court in Ingham County.

MRD Apartments, managing Prentis Estates, faced inquiries following complaints from tenants about low water pressure and temperature problems reported in March 2025. Despite submitting multiple work orders, the issues persisted until repairs were completed on the water softener system in April 2025. As a result, each affected apartment received a $500 rent credit.

The AVC stipulates that MRD Apartments will enhance communication with tenants regarding essential service disruptions. Additionally, tenants who lodged complaints with the Department will receive an extra $200 rent credit.

"Property managers are required to provide essential services, including reliable access to water," Nessel stated. "When they don’t, my office is here to help Michigan consumers receive the basic services they are entitled to and deserve."

Michigan residents suspecting consumer protection violations can contact the Department of Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Team for assistance.
