The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced a recall of thousands of Baseus portable chargers due to fire risks associated with overheating lithium-ion batteries. This announcement was published on the agency's website.

According to the CPSC, Shenzhen Baseus Technology Co. Ltd. has recalled approximately 132,000 magnetic wireless charging power banks due to these fire hazards. The agency reported 171 incidents, including 132 cases of battery swelling and 39 fires, which resulted in 13 burn injuries and about $20,000 in property damage. The affected models—PPCXM06 and PPCXW06—were sold online from April 2022 through April 2024.

As reported by CBS News, the recalled Baseus power banks were available on Amazon.com, AliExpress.com, and Baseus.com, with prices ranging from $18 to $55. Consumers are advised to stop using the products immediately and contact Baseus for a full refund with proof of purchase or a $36 refund without proof. Proper disposal of the lithium-ion batteries according to local regulations is also recommended.

The CPSC is an independent federal regulatory agency established in 1972 under the Consumer Product Safety Act to reduce the risk of injury or death from consumer products. It oversees the safety of more than 15,000 types of products and enforces standards through research, regulation, and recalls. Headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland, the CPSC is currently led by Acting Chairman Peter A. Feldman.
