Flyer Spring Invitational starts with NMU tied for ninth place after first round

The NMU golf team has completed the first round of the Flyer Spring Invitational, ending day one in a tie for ninth place among 13 teams. The team recorded a score of 318, which is 30 over par. Davenport led the competition with a score of 297, followed by Illinois-Springfield at 301 and Maryville at 302.

Tyler Annala shot 78, placing him eight strokes behind the leader Bryson Oots, who finished at 70. Annala started with a bogey but then made eight straight pars, finishing his last nine holes with six bogeys and a birdie.

Walter Ylitalo also scored 78. He began his round with four consecutive bogeys but improved over the last 14 holes to finish with two birdies.

Arthur Ylitalo, Walter's brother, scored 79. After beginning with four over par, he maintained ten pars but concluded with three bogeys in his final four holes.

Kyle Maki and Joe Luke both scored 83, each securing a birdie. Maki's birdie came on the 14th hole and Luke's on the 15th. Russel Sprecher, competing individually, scored 78 with 12 pars.

The second round will commence tomorrow morning at 10 a.m.
