Northern Michigan women's basketball players earn academic honors

Four players from the Northern Michigan University women's basketball team have been honored with College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District accolades. The athletes, Alyssa Hill, Sarah Newcomer, Alyssa Nimz, and CJ Romero, were recognized for their achievements both academically and athletically.

Alyssa Hill maintains a perfect 4.0 GPA while majoring in Accounting. She played in all 32 games this season, averaging 7.3 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. Hill notably scored a season-high of 19 points against Ferris State on February 15 and contributed to a double-double performance in the NCAA Tournament win over Hillsdale on March 14.

Sarah Newcomer is a Business major with a GPA of 3.96. She also started every game for the team and was named to the All-GLIAC Second Team. Newcomer averaged 8.9 points per game, along with 2.9 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game. Her season highlight included scoring 22 points against St. Cloud State on November 24.

Alyssa Nimz is pursuing a degree in Public Relations with a GPA of 3.87. She led her team in rebounding with an average of 6.4 per game while also contributing an average of 8.3 points per game across all games this season.

CJ Romero holds a GPA of 3.75 in Marketing, participating in 31 games with 21 starts this season. She averaged four points, along with contributing rebounds and assists each game.

The CSC Academic All-District Teams acknowledge student-athletes who excel both on the court and academically across the nation.
