Bulldogs defeat Wildcats with strong third-period performance

The Northern Michigan University (NMU) hockey team faced a tough loss against the Ferris State Bulldogs in their penultimate game of the season. Despite leading in shots on goal, NMU was defeated 5-1 after Ferris State scored three unanswered goals in the third period.

Throughout the match, NMU outshot Ferris State with a single-season high of 38 shots on goal compared to Ferris' 31. The Wildcats held a positive shot margin, marking the fourth instance this season they outshot an opponent.

NMU's only goal came at the end of the first period when Billy Renfrew scored his first collegiate goal by deflecting a shot from Trevor Mitchell. Matthew Argentina provided an assist on the play.

Ferris State's Zach Faremouth led his team with two goals and an assist. Caiden Gault added two more goals for Ferris, while Travis Shoudy and Gavin Best contributed multiple points as well.

In terms of gameplay statistics, NMU successfully killed two penalties, won 23 faceoffs compared to Ferris' 29, and blocked ten shots while Ferris blocked eighteen. Danny Ciccarello had a notable performance by winning eight out of ten faceoffs.

The final game of NMU's season is scheduled for February 29 in Big Rapids. Puck drop is set for 6:07 p.m., following a ceremony honoring Ferris State's seven seniors.
