The Northern Michigan University (NMU) men's swim and dive team achieved a significant milestone at the GLIAC Championships in Holland, Michigan. The team recorded the fastest time in the nation for the 200 free relay.
NMU is currently second among eight teams with 166.5 points, trailing Grand Valley State, which leads with 209.5 points. Wayne State follows closely behind NMU with 166 points. In combined team scores, NMU stands third with 332.5 points, behind Grand Valley's 536.5 and Wayne State's 374.
The events of the day included the 200 medley relay, 1000 free, 200 IM, 50 free, and 200 free relay. NMU secured three first-place finishes and four podium positions.
The team's success began with a gold medal in the finals of the 200 medley relay. Ian Rocheleau, Wyatt Dickman, William LaCount, and Leo Nolles set a school record time of "1:26.52," achieving an NCAA DII B cut.
In the individual events, Nolles excelled in the 50 free by winning gold while LaCount took bronze. Nolles' time was "19.51," setting another school record; LaCount finished at "19.88," both earning DII B times.
The highlight of NMU's performance came during the final event of the day when their team—comprising LaCount, Gabriel Fulconi, Daniel Khmara, and Nolles—won gold in the "200 free relay." They set multiple records including GLIAC overall record and meet record with a time of "1:17.76."
Other notable performances included Alessandro Rosatelli (1:47.97), Wyatt Dickman (1:48.19), Gabriel Fulconi (1:48.64), and Daniel Lopez-Aponte (1:50.55) posting NCAA DII B cut times in their respective categories.
