NMU Alpine Ski team prepares for regionals at Marquette Mountain

The Northern Michigan University (NMU) Alpine Ski team is gearing up for the USCSA Regional Championships at Marquette Mountain, their final competition before the National Championships. The event will be held over two days on their home course, with races starting at 10:30 AM each day. Weather forecasts predict snow and temperatures ranging from 24 to -2 degrees Fahrenheit.

Previously, NMU's ski team excelled at Spirit Mountain, capturing numerous top spots in both the giant slalom and slalom events. Tommie Springer, Maddy Stern, and Reagan Olli took the women's podium on Saturday, while Aaron Grzelak and Anthony Petkov secured gold and silver for the men. On Sunday, Ainsley Kirk, Olli, and Ella Wichert dominated for the women; Grzelak, Reed Heathman, and Andrew Truman did so for the men.

In last year's regional competition, NMU's men and women teams both claimed first place overall. The men's team achieved four podium finishes totaling 17 points, while the women's team had five podium finishes with a total of 13 points.

For men's results in 2024 combined standings, NMU led with Aaron Grzelak taking first place individually with 9.80 race points. For women's results in 2024 combined standings, Reagan Olli from NMU topped individual scores with 26.15 race points.
