NFIB Michigan State Director Amanda Fisher appeared before the Michigan Senate Regulatory Affairs Committee to discuss SB 15. This proposed legislation seeks to amend the Earned Sick Time Act (ESTA) before its implementation on February 21, 2025.

"Michigan small business owners know time is running out for the Legislature to make crucial changes including a small business exemption in the earned sick time law before another costly expense increases," said Amanda Fisher. She emphasized that the current legislation poses an administrative challenge for small business owners, particularly those managing HR tasks independently. "The current legislation is a confusing administrative burden on small business owners, especially those who handle their HR tasks themselves and are trying to comply with the bill’s language. We appreciate the desire to lessen this burden on Michigan’s small employers and urge the Senate to act quickly on a small business exemption in the ESTA."

NFIB has expressed approval of recent actions by the State House, which passed legislation addressing critical changes to laws concerning earned sick time and tipped wages for servers.
