Michigan's agricultural sector faces uncertainty following recent tariffs imposed on Canada, Mexico, and China. Tim Boring, Director of the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD), has expressed concern about the potential impact on the state's economy.

"We've had extensive conversations with farmers and other stakeholders, and I echo their concerns about these imposed tariffs," Boring stated. He emphasized the significance of Canada and Mexico as major export destinations for Michigan products. "While there are still a lot of unknowns, it's important to remember two things: Canada and Mexico are our biggest export destinations, and the last time this happened retaliatory tariffs specifically targeted agriculture."

Boring highlighted the possible repercussions of these trade measures. "We have to expect tariffs will immediately threaten agriculture jobs, our rural economies and ultimately what it costs to put food on the table."

The statement underscores the anxiety within Michigan's agricultural community as they brace for potential economic challenges.
