Northern Michigan University (NMU) athletics teams had a busy weekend with several competitions across different sports.

On Thursday, the women's basketball team secured a 78-48 victory against Ferris State, marking their first win at Ferris State since the 2018-19 season. The team led by as many as 38 points and achieved their first 30+ point win in a GLIAC contest in five years. Jacy Weisbrod scored 14 points, while Alyssa Nimz and Abi Fraaza each contributed 13 points.

The men's basketball team faced No. 8 Ferris State and lost 85-79 after a closely contested game that saw seven ties in the final minutes. Dylan Kuehl was NMU's top scorer with 19 points.

On Friday, NMU's hockey team played against Michigan Tech but fell short with a 3-2 loss. Despite coming back from a two-goal deficit, they were unable to overcome a late power play goal by Michigan Tech.

Saturday saw another strong performance from the women's basketball team as they defeated Lake Superior State with a score of 75-37. Sydney Whitehouse achieved a career-high of 16 points, while Alyssa Hill added another 15 points to the tally.

The men's basketball team struggled against No. 14 Lake Superior State, losing 79-49 after shooting only 32.1% from the field compared to LSSU's more efficient performance.

In alpine skiing, both NMU men’s and women’s teams swept the podium in Giant Slalom events on Saturday and repeated this feat in slalom races on Sunday.

NMU's hockey team faced Michigan Tech again on Saturday but suffered a heavy defeat with a scoreline of 4-0 despite being perfect on penalty kills during five power plays.

The track and field team competed at the Karl Schlender Invite where they finished second among eight teams with notable performances including setting a new school record in the women's 4x200m relay.
