The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has announced a public meeting to discuss the final phase of the Restore the Reuther project on I-696 in Metro Detroit. The meeting is scheduled for February 4, 2025, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Temple Emanu-El in Oak Park.
The session will provide an opportunity for community partners, city representatives, local businesses, interested residents, and MDOT representatives to engage in discussions about the project. MDOT staff will be present to answer questions and share details about the upcoming construction.
The last phase of the Restore the Reuther project is set to commence in early March. It involves rebuilding both eastbound and westbound I-696 between Lahser Road and I-75 during 2025-2026. In 2027, major road work will take place between I-75 and Dequindre Road. The project includes comprehensive roadway reconstruction, bridge work, and drainage improvements.
A total of 60 bridges are slated for repair as part of this initiative. Notably, this includes rebuilding the Church Street Plaza bridge that encompasses Victoria Park. A walkway detour will be implemented during this period.
While westbound traffic will continue uninterrupted during construction between Lahser Road and I-75, eastbound traffic will be rerouted via southbound M-10 (Lodge Freeway), eastbound M-8 (Davison Highway), and northbound I-75 back to eastbound I-696.
For those requiring assistance due to mobility or other needs, contact Orlando Curry at 517-241-7462 or CurryO@Michigan.gov at least five business days before the meeting. More information can be found on MDOT's Title VI webpage.
