The NMU hockey team secured a 3-1 victory over Bemidji State Beavers, completing a weekend sweep on the road. The Wildcats, now with a record of 4-19-1 and 3-12-1 in the CCHA, have claimed their third win in four games. This marks their first sweep of the season and their first weekend sweep in Bemidji since February 2021. Meanwhile, the Beavers are winless in their last eight games, standing at 8-12-4 overall and 5-8-3 in the CCHA.
The Wildcats' three unanswered goals came during the second period. Ryan Duguay opened scoring with a power-play goal. Shortly after, Grayden Slipec and Jakub Altrichter scored within a minute to extend NMU's lead to 3-0.
Goalie Ryan Ouellette made 33 saves on 81 shot attempts from Bemidji State. He also recorded his first career point with an assist on Slipec's goal. "Just as last night," noted an observer, "the Beavers lone goal came on the power play." The Wildcats did not allow any five-on-five goals throughout the weekend.
Altrichter and Aidyn Hutchinson both had multi-point games, marking their fourth and second multi-point performances this year respectively. Tynan Ewart also contributed with an assist.
Looking ahead, NMU will face Michigan Tech Huskies next weekend in a home-and-home series starting January 24.
