With the Detroit Auto Show underway, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel is emphasizing the importance of recognizing signs of human trafficking. The event is expected to attract hundreds of thousands of visitors to Detroit, a situation where such crimes can surface.

"We all have a role to play in the fight against human trafficking," Nessel stated. "By understanding the signs and reporting suspicious activity, you can help save people from this horrific crime."

Signs that someone may be a victim include visible abuse marks like bruises or cuts, lack of control over personal finances or identification documents, avoidance of eye contact, restricted communication abilities, and reluctance to admit their victim status.

Nessel's office provides resources on its website tailored for healthcare professionals, first responders, and hospitality workers who might encounter trafficking victims more frequently.

The auto show will continue at Huntington Place in Detroit until January 20. Anyone suspecting human trafficking is urged to contact the National Human Trafficking Resource Center at 888-373-7888 or text 233733. This service operates nationwide around the clock with confidential support.
