The NMU Wildcats hockey team secured a 3-2 victory over the No. 12 Minnesota State Mavericks, ending an eight-game losing streak and earning their first conference points since their previous win against the Mavericks in Mankato. Ryan Duguay played a pivotal role by scoring his first career hat-trick, including two power-play goals and the game-winning goal in the final period. Reflecting on his achievement, Duguay said, "It was special... I owe it all to my linemates."

Assists came from Jakub Altrichter and Aidyn Hutchinson, who each contributed two assists. Tynan Ewart and Matthew Argentina also added one assist each.

Ryan Ouellette made 25 saves during the game, achieving a .926 save percentage. The Wildcats' special teams were instrumental in their success, converting two out of three power plays and killing five out of six penalties.

Duguay praised his teammates for their effort: "It was a gutsy effort from everyone tonight... We had guys sacrificing all over the ice tonight."

Looking ahead, NMU aims for a series sweep as they face off against Minnesota State again on January 11 at Berry Events Center.
