Lisa Ludy, a 54-year-old resident of Macomb County, has been sentenced to a prison term ranging from three to twenty years for multiple felony charges related to the theft from two vulnerable adults. Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel announced the sentencing on Wednesday. Ludy had entered a no-contest plea in July 2024 and was sentenced by Judge Julie Gatti in the 16th Judicial Circuit Court in Macomb County.

The sentence includes incarceration terms for various charges: three to twenty years for two counts of conducting a criminal enterprise, three to fifteen years for one count of embezzlement involving amounts between $50,000 and $100,000, and three to ten years for another embezzlement charge involving amounts between $20,000 and $50,000. Additional charges include financial transaction device-stealing/retaining without consent, embezzlement from a vulnerable adult with amounts ranging from $1,000 to less than $20,000, witness-bribing/intimidating/interfering, other embezzlement charges involving smaller sums, and failure to file tax returns. All sentences are set to run concurrently.

As part of her plea agreement, Ludy agreed to pay restitution totaling $187,827.96 to the victims. Prior to her sentencing, she had already paid $17,000 in restitution.

“This sentence secures not only prison time but substantial restitution for the vulnerable adults who were exploited by the guardian and conservator they entrusted with their finances,” said Attorney General Nessel. “My office remains committed to seeking justice for some of our state’s most vulnerable and providing pathways for them to recoup their stolen funds.”

Ludy's legal troubles began in 2016 when she petitioned for her company, Community Guardian Care Inc., to be appointed as a guardian and conservator for one of the victims. After gaining this position, she misappropriated over $100,000 from the victim's finances for personal use and directed funds towards her family businesses—Career Health Studies, Career Health Training Corporation, and Applewood Adult Foster Care Home. She also failed to file income taxes between 2016 and 2019.

In 2022 after being initially charged with these crimes, another victim came forward alleging that Ludy refused to return his money. This led to additional charges against her for using his Social Security income through unauthorized debit card transactions even after being removed as his guardian. Furthermore, Ludy attempted to interfere with this victim’s ability to press charges or testify against her in court.
