The NMU Wildcats hockey team is set to host the No. 12 Minnesota State Mavericks for a weekend series at the Berry Events Center in Marquette, Michigan. The games are scheduled for Friday at 7:07 p.m. and Saturday at 6:07 p.m., with streaming available on MidcoSports Plus and radio coverage from 100.3 The Point.

In conjunction with the series, the NMU Athletic Department will hold its second Blue Line Luncheon on Friday, January 10, at Slabz Bar & Grill located in the Ramada of Marquette. Tickets are priced at $25 per person. Featured speakers include NMU Athletic Director Rick Comely and Men's Hockey Head Coach Dave Shyiak, along with select players.

Recently, the Wildcats participated in the Great Lakes Invitational tournament held in Grand Rapids, Michigan. They managed to force overtime against Michigan Tech Huskies after a strong performance against No. 1 Michigan State Spartans. Defenseman Tynan Ewart and goaltender Ryan Ouellette were named CCHA Players of the Week due to their impressive performances during this event.

Tynan Ewart led conference blueliners in points and blocked shots last week while Ryan Ouellette posted a .953 save percentage during the tournament's semifinals against Michigan State.

On individual achievements within the team, freshman Grayden Slipec leads in goals and points among others. Additionally, Jesse Tucker ranks third in faceoff wins among CCHA centermen.

The upcoming series against Minnesota State marks an important matchup for both teams. Previously, these teams met where NMU secured a shootout win thanks to Jakub Altrichter’s goal and Ryan Ouellette's saves.

Minnesota State has been performing well recently with six straight regular season wins since their last meeting with NMU. Junior netminder Alex Tracy has been notable for leading Division I goalies in several categories including goals-against average and save percentage.

Senior forward Rhett Pitlick is currently leading his team in various offensive categories including goals and assists as they prepare for this anticipated series against NMU.
