Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel, in collaboration with federal Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), Michigan State Police, and local police departments, announced the arrests of individuals linked to an alleged international human trafficking ring. The operation targeted illicit massage parlors in Detroit, Highland Park, St. Clair Shores, and Sterling Heights. This is considered one of the largest rings uncovered in Michigan.
The investigation began this summer and culminated in a coordinated effort involving numerous law enforcement officers executing arrest and search warrants across Wayne and Macomb Counties. During the operation, seven to nine women of Chinese and Korean origin were rescued from the alleged trafficking network. Search warrants were executed at four locations: 111 Healing Studio in St. Clair Shores, AM Healing Studio in Sterling Heights, Magic Health Spa in Detroit, and 8 Star in Detroit.
"This operation has put an end to a significant human trafficking ring," said Nessel. "These arrests...make it clear that Michigan will be no harbor for the vile trafficking trade for forced labor."
Angie M. Salazar, HSI Detroit Special Agent in Charge, stated: "Working with our partners we are steadfast in our commitment to combating crimes of trafficking and exploitation."
The arrested individuals include Jingyu Jin, alleged head of the ring; Huazi Piao; Jon Villasurda; Oumar Lougue; and Ming Li. They face multiple charges including conducting a criminal enterprise and accepting earnings from prostitution.
Charges against Jin, Lougue, and Villasurda have been filed in St. Clair Shores' 40th District Court while charges against Li and Piao are filed in Detroit's 36th District Court.
