Yesterday, David White, a 67-year-old resident of Union City, was convicted by an Oakland County jury on multiple felony charges. Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel announced the verdict, which includes criminal enterprise, embezzlement, and tax evasion charges.

White was found guilty of one count of conducting a criminal enterprise, two counts of embezzlement by an agent/trustee involving amounts between $50,000 to $100,000 or more, one count of embezzlement involving $1,000-$20,000, and six counts related to failing to file taxes.

The case stems from White's role as co-trustee of the John Stirling White Trust following his father's death in 2014. The trust included assets such as The Winery Office Building in Farmington. Despite having several adult siblings as beneficiaries, litigation prevented asset distribution while White controlled the trust's finances.

In 2019, a probate court removed White from his trustee position due to non-compliance with orders for financial accountings. An investigation by the Department of Attorney General revealed he had embezzled at least $400,000 over five years.

Attorney General Nessel stated: “The hard-earned savings and property of those who have passed must be managed with integrity and respect, not exploited by those entrusted with their care.” She expressed gratitude towards the jury for securing the conviction and reaffirmed her department's commitment to protecting estates in Michigan.

David White is scheduled for sentencing on January 23, 2025. Judge Martha Anderson will preside over the proceedings in the 6th Circuit Court in Oakland County.
