The Northern Michigan women's wrestling team participated in the Simpson College Luther Hill Invitational in Indianola, Iowa, marking the start of their regular season. The Wildcats achieved notable performances with four wrestlers finishing in the top five of their respective weight classes, amassing a total of 73.5 points.
Kailyn Garrett stood out by securing second place in the 235-pound category, earning 19 points for her team. She won three consecutive matches by fall before being defeated in the championship match by technical fall.
In the 145-pound class, Alissa Caltagirone garnered 15 points for Northern Michigan by finishing fourth. Caltagirone achieved three victories by fall before losing in the third-place match.
Sophia Bassino also contributed 15 points to Northern's tally with another fourth-place finish at 160 pounds. Her performance included two wins by fall and one by technical fall over five matches.
Clarissa Wangen finished within the top five at 180 pounds, accumulating a total of 12 points. She recorded one victory by fall during her series of contests.
Other team members who added to the score were Sara Schroder (1.5), Sharon Leon (3.0), Mickaela Keane (2.5), Ruby Joseph (3.0), and Andrea Zunun (2.5).
Looking ahead, the Wildcats are set to participate in upcoming events including Alma Duals, Adrian Duals, and Adrian Invite from November 8-10.
