The NMU women's soccer team secured a decisive 5-0 victory against the Parkside Rangers, marking their third consecutive win. The match took place on their home field in Marquette, Michigan.
Five players contributed to the scoring for the Wildcats. Brooke Pietila and Molly Pistorius each scored a goal and provided two assists. Maria Storm, Calihan Bearden, and Ashley Koch also found the back of the net. Assists were recorded by Hannah Kastamo and Alyse Daavettila.
Goalkeeper Sally Patton made three saves during her 59 minutes on the field. Jillian Thompson replaced her and made two saves in 31 minutes of play.
The Wildcats dominated offensively, outshooting Parkside 26-10 with 17 shots on target compared to five from their opponents. They also led in corner kicks with a count of 7-2.
With this win, NMU's record improves to 11-3-2 overall and 9-2-1 in conference play. Their next game is scheduled for next weekend in Allendale, where they will face an opponent that could impact their standing at the top of the conference.
In the first half, a coordinated effort between Molly Pistorius, Hannah Kastamo, and Brooke Pietila resulted in Pietila scoring just before halftime. Early in the second half, Pietila assisted Maria Storm's header from a corner kick to extend NMU's lead.
Pietila continued her strong performance by setting up another goal shortly after when Calihan Bearden capitalized on a ball touched by Pistorius. Later in the game, Pistorius redirected a shot from Kastamo into the net.
Alyse Daavettila completed NMU's scoring with an assist to Ashley Koch who confidently finished with a goal.
