The Northern Michigan University (NMU) women's swim and dive team made significant strides in their recent meet against Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU) and Grand Valley State University (GVSU). The event, held in Marquette, Michigan, saw the Wildcats break several records and earn NCAA provisional marks.
In a decisive victory, NMU defeated SVSU with a score of 232.00 to 68.00 but fell short against GVSU with a close margin of 127.50 to 172.50. GVSU also secured a win over SVSU with an identical scoreline as NMU's victory.
A highlight for the Wildcats was their performance in the 200-yard medley relay, where Camilla Carbone, Zoe DeKievit, Elena Curti, and Becca Burrows set a new record with a time of 1:43.23. Carbone further impressed by breaking the 50 backstroke record during her lead-off leg in the relay at 25.91 seconds.
Carbone continued her strong showing by setting another record in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 55.54 seconds. DeKievit also shone individually by breaking records in both the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:03.14 and the pool record for the 200-yard breaststroke at 2:18.11.
Kalina Ceglinski and Abbie Harned excelled in diving events, earning provisional marks on the one-meter board with scores of 404.35 and 399.40 respectively.
The Wildcats concluded their meet strongly with their relay team comprising Burrows, Mia Strazny, Joanne Arbic, and Curti setting another pool record in the final event.
NMU will take a brief hiatus before returning to competition on November 9th against Wayne State University and Findlay from Detroit.
