The Northern Michigan volleyball team faced a challenging match against Grand Valley State University on Friday evening. The Wildcats were defeated in straight sets, with scores of 13-25, 26-28, and 16-25.
Jacqueline Smith led the Wildcats with nine kills. Meghan Meyer and Allie Barlow each contributed two aces. Defensively, Caylie Barlage recorded eight digs for the team.
The Wildcats' hitting percentage was .091 compared to GVSU's .448. In the first set, GVSU took an early lead and maintained it, winning 25-13 without any attacking errors. Northern Michigan fought back in the second set, even leading at one point 24-21. However, GVSU managed to win the set in extra points at 28-26. The final set saw GVSU maintaining control and securing victory with a score of 25-16.
This loss brings Northern Michigan's record to 13-6 overall and 7-2 in conference play, while Grand Valley State improved to a record of 17-1 overall and 8-1 in conference play.
The Wildcats are scheduled to face Wayne State tomorrow at 4 p.m. in Detroit.
