The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) has announced a Competitive Grant Funding Opportunity (GFO) aimed at enhancing recovery support center services or recovery community center services for individuals seeking long-term recovery from substance use disorders. This initiative is part of the FY2025 budget, incorporating both general fund dollars and opioid settlement funding, with a total of $3.8 million available. The department plans to issue up to 20 awards, each with a maximum value of $150,000.
Dr. Natasha Bagdasarian, chief medical executive, emphasized the importance of this funding: “We continue to support those seeking treatment for substance use disorder and to make more resources available to better support those in recovery. These funds will help our state address the multi-generational impact of the opioid epidemic as well as the racial disparities that exist with substance use disorder.”
To qualify for this grant, applicants must be certified or conditionally certified as a recovery community organization through Faces and Voices of Recovery or meet the definition of a recovery community center. These centers are independent, non-profit organizations led by representatives from local communities in recovery.
Interested parties must submit their applications electronically via the EGrAMS program by 3 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 21. The program period is scheduled from Feb. 1, 2025, to Sept. 30, 2025.
A pre-application conference will be held on Monday, Oct. 28 at 9 a.m., lasting approximately 90 minutes. This session aims to discuss the funding opportunity and provide guidance on using the EGrAMS system. It can be accessed online at https://bit.ly/3U7mj8K, where a recording will also be available after the conference.
For further details or to apply for this grant opportunity, interested applicants should visit the EGrAMS website and follow instructions under "About EGrAMS" for accessing competitive application instructions and reviewing the complete GFO under ‘Current Grants’ in the “Specialty Behavioral Health Services” section.
