The Northern Michigan University Track & Field team concluded their competition at the Beach Invitational in Long Beach, California. Over the two-day event, a dozen Wildcats competed in various events against top Division I and II athletes.
On the second day of competition, Gianna Hoving secured fifth place in the 1500m with a time of 4:36.31. In the 4x100m relay, NMU's team comprising Ellyse Wolfrath, Jahtivya Williams, Crystal Walker, and Baux Truckey finished with a time of 47.21.
In the 100m hurdles, Wolfrath completed her race in 14.00 seconds, followed by Walker at 14.57 and Sofi Diop at 15.34. Walker also achieved a distance of 5.68 meters in the long jump event.
Beverly Harper participated in the 400m dash, finishing under one minute with a time of 59.96 seconds. Natalie Pisoke and Ahna Larson both recorded times of 1:05.82 in the same distance hurdles.
The day's penultimate event was the 200m dash where Truckey and Williams placed inside the top 30 with times of 24.84 and 25.05 respectively. The competition concluded with the 4x400m relay as Larson, Harper, Truckey, and Pisoke finished with a time of 4:10.09.
During day one of the invitational, Skylar Grubb and Madi Szymanski earned victories for NMU in distance events. Grubb won the challenging 10000m race with a time of 36:59.48 while Szymanski triumphed in the 5000m race clocking in at a personal best of 16:58.75 which also met an NCAA provisional mark.
Three Wildcats participated in the 800m event; Hoving finished at 2:14.38 securing an eleventh-place finish over two days of heats while Harper crossed at 2:19.01 followed by Lamar Gordon at 2:22.96.
Looking ahead, NMU will compete next weekend at Oakland University's Elaine Leigh Invite on April 19-20 in Rochester, Michigan.
