Northern Michigan wrestlers qualify for nationals after regional success

The Northern Michigan wrestling team secured fourth place out of nine teams at the NCWWC Northwest Regional Qualifier held in Naperville, Illinois. The event saw three of its wrestlers earn qualifications for the national competition: Zhivanna Magdaleno, Marisa Angelos, and Alissa Caltagirone.

The Wildcats accumulated a total of 82 points, with North Central (IL) leading the region with 219 points. Aurora followed with 106 points, and Stevens Point scored 103.5 points.

Marisa Angelos achieved second place in the 143 weight class with a record of 3-1, securing two wins by fall and another by decision. In the same weight class, Alissa Caltagirone finished in true fourth after a victory in the quarterfinals.

Zhivanna Magdaleno also reached second place in the 123 weight class after winning her semifinal match by decision.

Noelle Gaffney claimed fourth place at 155 pounds with three victories by decision. Sharon Leon earned fifth place at 130 pounds with a record of 3-2, all victories by fall. Mickaela Keane also finished fifth at 170 pounds following three wins.

Ruby Joseph placed sixth at 170 pounds. At 109 pounds, Trinity Valentin took seventh place, as did Teni Ajayi at 191 pounds.
