Northern Michigan University excels at St Norbert Invite ahead of GLIAC Championships

In the lead-up to the GLIAC Championships, Northern Michigan University's track and field team demonstrated strong performances at the St. Norbert Invite in Wisconsin. The team achieved six victories, 13 podium finishes, and set 11 personal records.

A notable highlight was in the 400m event where NMU athletes claimed all three top spots. Beverly Harper led with a time of 59.83 seconds, followed by Ciara Ostrenga at 1:00.07 and Emme Burrough at 1:00.93. Lana Mac also performed well, finishing fifth with a time of 1:02.05.

In the 100m hurdles, Ellyse Wolfrath secured first place with a time of 14.09 seconds. Eva Zona came third while Natasha Nowakowski finished fifth; Nowakowski also achieved fourth place in javelin and sixth in long jump.

Leah Root delivered NMU's sole field victory by setting a personal record of 3.71 meters in pole vaulting. Talon Prusi won her first career victory in the 5000m race with a time of 19:33.59, while freshman Baux Truckey impressed with a win in the 200m at 24.61 seconds.

The team's success extended to the relay events as well, with Wolfrath, Jahtivya Williams, Ahna Larson, and Truckey winning the 4x100m relay in a time of 47.78 seconds.

Isabella Beck was runner-up in the 3000m steeplechase clocking at 12:56.70, closely followed by Elliott Smith who took third place at 12:57.61.

Amelia Kashian secured second place in the 800m event with a time of 2:30.62.

In other results from NMU athletes, Emma Sweeney placed third in the 1500m race with a time of 5:04.12 while Petra Foote followed closely for fourth place at 5:10.78.

Natalie Pisoke rounded out NMU's performances by finishing fifth in the 100m dash with a time of 12.99 seconds.

Looking ahead, Northern Michigan University will compete next at the GLIAC Championships from May 1-3 hosted by Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan.
