Northern Michigan track team shines at Spartan Invite

A successful outing for the Northern Michigan Track & Field team at the Spartan Invite saw them secure two gold medals among a dozen top-five finishes. The event took place in East Lansing, Michigan.

The Wildcats' 4x400m relay team, consisting of Ellyse Wolfrath, Jahtivya Williams, Crystal Walker, and Baux Truckey, achieved first place with a time of 48.23 seconds. Crystal Walker also claimed victory in the long jump with a distance of 5.66 meters, narrowly defeating a competitor from Michigan State.

In the 100m events, Northern Michigan earned two second-place finishes. Baux Truckey completed the 100m dash in 12.54 seconds, while Ellyse Wolfrath ran the 100m hurdles in 15.49 seconds.

The Wildcats showed strength in the 400m hurdles as well, with Natalie Pisoke finishing fourth at 1:07.26 and Ahna Larson just behind her in fifth at 1:07.27.

Emma Sweeney placed fourth in the 3000 steeplechase with a time of 11:55.68, followed by Dani VanLente who finished fifth at 12:12.53.

Another notable performance came from Lana Mac who secured fifth place in the 1500m race with a time of 5:05.28. Leah Root and Teiolla Harvey also achieved fifth-place finishes in their respective field events; Root reached a distance of 10.77 meters in the triple jump and Harvey threw the javelin to a mark of 29.35 meters.

Skylar Grubb set a personal record in the 5000m race with a time of 17:46.85, finishing seventh overall and standing out as the only Division II runner among top ten finishers from larger universities like Michigan and Western Michigan.

The Wildcats are now preparing for upcoming invitationals on April 12th and April 13th on their trip to Long Beach, California.
