The Northern Michigan University volleyball team faced a challenging match on the road, losing to Wayne State University in three straight sets. The final scores were 21-25, 19-25, and 12-25. Despite efforts from Northern Michigan, the Wildcats struggled against the Warriors' strong performance.
In the first two sets, Northern Michigan managed to keep the score close but could not secure a victory. The third set saw Wayne State dominate and secure a win over the Wildcats. Overall, NMU was outperformed with a hitting percentage of .070 compared to Wayne State's .269. The Warriors took control with four out of five significant runs during the match.
Jacqueline Smith contributed ten kills for Northern Michigan, equaled by Katie Smith and Kayla Giroux from Wayne State.
Following this loss, Northern Michigan's record stands at 7-14 overall and 4-6 in conference play. Wayne State improved their standing to 8-13 overall and 3-7 in GLIAC matches.
During the first set, both teams engaged in a tight battle with minimal point differences. NMU initially led at 14-13 but soon lost ground as WSU gained momentum and won 25-21. Jacqueline Smith achieved seven kills on fourteen attempts during this set.
In the second set, Northern Michigan started strong with a lead of 6-4 but fell behind after consecutive points from Wayne State led them into a timeout at 10-7. Although they briefly regained a lead at 17-16, another series of points from WSU resulted in another loss for NMU at 25-19.
The third set began unfavorably for NMU as they quickly found themselves trailing due to Wayne State's six-point run leading to an early score of 7-1. Despite narrowing down to one point difference at one stage (9–8), WSU maintained pressure resulting ultimately finishing off comfortably winning it by finishing up scoring spree ending up winning that final frame decisively (25–12).
Looking ahead after this defeat against their conference rivals—Northern is scheduled next take-on Saginaw Valley State tomorrow October twenty-first starting five PM hoping better fortune awaits them there!
