Northern Michigan Wildcats open GLIAC Championships with heptathlon

The Northern Michigan Track & Field team began their participation in the GLIAC Championships on Wednesday in Allendale, Michigan. The opening day featured two of their athletes, freshmen Eva Zonca and Natasha Nowakowski, competing in four events of the heptathlon.

Zonca concluded the first day in 8th place, while Nowakowski was positioned in 9th in the overall heptathlon standings. In the 100m hurdles, Zonca finished 8th with a time of 16.41 seconds, and Nowakowski came in 10th at 17.49 seconds. The high jump saw Nowakowski achieving a height of 1.49 meters for a 5th place finish, with Zonca reaching 1.40 meters for 9th place.

In shot put competition, Nowakowski threw a distance of 9.53 meters to secure 4th place, while Zonca's throw measured at 8.21 meters for a 7th place finish. The day's events concluded with the 200m dash where Zonca took another 8th place at a time of 28.11 seconds and Nowakowski finished in 10th at 28.98 seconds.

Both athletes will continue their heptathlon events on Thursday morning with the long jump, javelin throw, and an 800m race starting at 9:30 a.m.

Additional track events are scheduled to begin Thursday afternoon at approximately 2:30 p.m., followed by field events starting at around 3 p.m.
