Northern Michigan Track & Field heads to Elaine Leigh Invite

The Northern Michigan Track & Field team is set to participate in the Elaine Leigh Invite, a two-day event hosted by Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan. This marks the team's second trip downstate this outdoor season. The meet will commence on Friday, April 19th and conclude on Saturday, April 20th.

The competition will begin with the pole vault at 1 p.m. on Friday, followed by the hammer throw and long jump. The only track event scheduled for day one is the 10000m distance race. Events are slated to continue from noon on Saturday, encompassing both track and field activities.

In their previous outing at the Beach Invitational in California, Northern Michigan University's Wildcats showcased commendable performances against top Division I and II competitors. Notably, Gianna Hoving secured fifth place in the 1500m with a time of 4:36.31.

The NMU relay team, consisting of Ellyse Wolfrath, Jahtivya Williams, Crystal Walker, and Baux Truckey, recorded a time of 47.21 in a closely contested 4x100m relay.

Ellyse Wolfrath achieved an NCAA provisional mark in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.00. Skylar Grubb and Madi Szymanski each claimed victories in distance events for NMU. Grubb earned two wins, including first place in the grueling 10000m race with a time of 36:59.48. Szymanski's victory came in the 5000m with a personal record time of 16:58.75, also meeting an NCAA provisional mark.
