Grand Valley State defeats Northern Michigan in women's lacrosse

The Northern Michigan University women's lacrosse team faced a challenging match against Grand Valley State University, ranked 7th and 8th nationally. The game concluded with a decisive 13-2 victory for the Lakers in Allendale, Michigan.

Minnie Bittell and Kaitlyn Bridger were the only players to score for Northern Michigan, each contributing one goal. Freshman Natalie Thomas was notable on defense with five ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Northern Michigan's record now stands at 12 wins and four losses overall, with a conference record of three wins and two losses in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). They are preparing for their regular season finale against Concordia-St. Paul on April 27th.

The match began with Grand Valley State scoring early within the first three minutes. Bittell equalized for Northern Michigan shortly after, but the Lakers responded quickly with another goal. The remainder of the first quarter saw no further scoring from either side.

In the second quarter, Grand Valley extended their lead with two more goals early on. Despite a promising shot from Bittell, she was denied by the opposing goalkeeper. By halftime, Grand Valley led 6-1.

Bridger opened scoring in the second half for Northern Michigan with a free-position goal. However, Grand Valley added three unanswered goals before concluding the third quarter.

The final quarter saw continued efforts from Northern Michigan but no additional goals were scored by them. Grand Valley secured their win with four more goals, ending the game at 13-2.

Looking ahead, Northern Michigan aims to finish their GLIAC regular season strong against Concordia-St. Paul on April 27th.
