Josie Lakosky, a lacrosse player from Northern Michigan University (NMU), has been honored as the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Freshman of the Year. Despite missing one game due to injury, Lakosky started in 16 games and made significant contributions on offense for NMU.

Lakosky, hailing from Victoria, Minnesota, led her team in caused turnovers with 16 and was second in goals with 40. She also accumulated 52 points, four game-winning goals, and ranked third in assists with 12. Additionally, she recorded 86 shots, six free-position goals, and 43 draw controls. She collected the fourth-most ground balls on her team with a total of 28.

Head coach Lindsey (LeMay) Majkrzak praised Lakosky's performance: "Watching Josie flourish in the college game this year has been a privilege," said Majkrzak. "I knew during the recruitment process that she was going to be special, but the way she has handled the adjustment to the intensity and physicality of the game at this level while maintaining her field vision and touch has been so impressive to see. This is just the beginning for Josie."

In GLIAC play, Lakosky scored 16 goals and added three assists for a total of 19 points over six games. Her goal tally was just one shy of leading the conference, while her point total ranked third among GLIAC players.

Throughout the season, Lakosky scored three or more goals in eight different games and achieved a career-high six goals during a seven-point performance against Concordia-St. Paul (CSP). Another standout performance came against Walsh University on their home turf where she recorded five ground balls, five caused turnovers, four draw controls along with four points.
