The Northern Michigan University men's soccer team is preparing for home matches against Parkside Rangers and Purdue Northwest Pride this weekend. The Wildcats, with a record of 2-7-1 overall and 1-4 in the GLIAC, face challenging opponents as they aim to improve their standing.
Parkside Rangers lead the GLIAC table with a record of 6-1-2 overall and 4-0-1 in the conference. The Purdue Northwest Pride holds second place with a record of 6-1-3 overall and 3-1-1 in the GLIAC.
The Wildcats have secured both of their wins this season at home, defeating Quincy and Davenport each by a score of 1-0. Head Coach Alex Fatovic stated, "For us, it's about just keep pushing and keep getting better… we're going to stick to the same model and see if we can finish our chances."
Goalkeeper Florian Palmowski ranks second in saves within the conference, third in save percentage, goals against average, and fourth in goals against. Jan Hoffmann leads NMU in points, shots, and minutes played.
Last week, NMU lost to UW Eau Claire Blugolds with an own goal from a penalty kick near the end of the match. They also fell to St. Cloud State Huskies despite outshooting them during the game.
The Wildcats previously faced Parkside on September 24th in Kenosha but were defeated by a narrow margin of 0-1. Historically, NMU has struggled against Parkside with only one win out of their last ten encounters.
Purdue Northwest recently triumphed over Saginaw Valley Cardinals with key performances from forwards Hugo Lorenzo and Jacob Battista leading their scoring efforts for the season. The Wildcats have not fared well against Purdue Northwest lately but will aim to change that trend at home this weekend.
