The NMU men's and women's nordic ski team emerged victorious at the CCSA Conference Championships held in Marquette, Michigan, over the weekend. The team secured 11 out of 12 podium spots during two days of competition to claim the title.
With a total score of 287 points, NMU surpassed competitors Michigan Tech, which scored 238 points for second place, and Saint Scholastica, which finished third with 184 points.
Freshman Henriette Nilssen led the women's team by winning gold medals on both days of competition. Teammates Merle Richter and Victoria Dybwad also performed well, with Richter taking silver in the 7.5km Freestyle and bronze in the 20km Classic. Dybwad earned bronze on Saturday and silver on Sunday.
On the men's side, Luke Fricker won gold in the 7.5km Freestyle before securing a silver medal in Sunday's 20km Classic event. Kristoffer Karsrud achieved podium finishes twice by earning gold on Saturday and bronze on Sunday. Mathias Haugen claimed a silver medal in the 7.5km Freestyle on Saturday.
The Wildcats will take a break this coming weekend as they prepare for the NCAA Central Regional Skiing Championships scheduled for February 24th and 25th.
