The Northern Michigan University men's soccer team is set to host the St. Cloud State Huskies in their final regular season game on Sunday at 1 PM. This match also marks Senior Day, with five seniors being honored for their contributions to the NMU program.
The Wildcats currently hold a record of 2-9-3 overall and 1-6-2 in the GLIAC, while the Huskies stand at 3-6-4 overall and 3-3-3 in the conference. The seniors to be recognized include Keegan Schmidt, Kalvin Glodz, Casey Miller, Jackson Bowers, and Fernando Abascal.
Head coach Alex Fatovic expressed the significance of this occasion: "It's obviously an important day for us as a team, but also it's an important day for the seniors to celebrate their time and accomplishments here at Northern."
Fans can follow @NMU_Mens_Soccer on X (formerly Twitter) for updates throughout the week. Live stats and viewing options will be available for Sunday's game.
Keegan Schmidt has been a key player over his five years with NMU, setting a program record with 69 games played. Kalvin Glodz served as captain this season and has consistently started games since last year. Casey Miller has contributed since joining in 2021, while Jackson Bowers has been part of the team since 2019. Graduate transfer Fernando Abascal has started every match this season.
The Huskies come into this match after a recent draw against Saginaw Valley State Cardinals. Forwards Zinedine Kroeten and Philip Caputo lead their team in points, while goalkeeper Dylan De Baldo boasts significant saves across his appearances.
Earlier this season, NMU lost to St. Cloud State despite outshooting them significantly. Historically, however, NMU had success against them in previous seasons.
Last weekend saw NMU face off against Saginaw Valley State Cardinals and Davenport Panthers. They lost narrowly to the Cardinals but managed a draw against the Panthers thanks to goalkeeper Bryce Beckley's efforts.
