The NCAA Men's and Women's Skiing Committee has announced the selection of participants for the 2024 National Collegiate Men's and Women's Skiing Championships. A total of 74 men and 74 women will compete in the event, which is scheduled to take place from March 6-9 at Steamboat Spring, Colorado. The University of Colorado, Boulder, will host this year's championships.
Selection for participation is done regionally, with two regions designated for Alpine skiing (East and West) and three regions for Nordic skiing (Central, East, and West). The committee awards bids based on a specific formula. Each institution can have a maximum of 12 student-athletes selected—three per gender per discipline.
The Nordic events are set for Thursday, March 7, and Saturday, March 9 at Howelsen Hill. These championships will be webcast live on NCAA.com.
Among those selected are six Wildcats who secured all available spots: Luke Fricker, Kristoffer Karsrud, Mathias Haugen from the men's team; Henriette Nilssen, Merle Richter, Victoria Dybwad from the women's team.
During the recent NCAA Central Regional Championships, these athletes performed well. For the men’s team: Fricker earned silver and bronze medals; Karsrud took home silver; Haugen achieved a top-10 finish. In the women’s team: Nilssen claimed two silver medals; Richter won gold and bronze; Dybwad managed consecutive top-10 finishes.
Karsrud and Richter will be making their third consecutive appearance at the NCAA Championships while Fricker returns for his second year. Last season saw the Wildcats finish 14th overall with 20.5 team points across four events.
