Karsrud takes silver as NMU shines at NCAA regional championships

The NMU men's nordic ski team concluded their participation in the NCAA Central Regional Championships held in Houghton, Michigan. Kristoffer Karsrud and Luke Fricker secured silver and bronze medals respectively in the 20km interval start event.

Initially planned as a mass start race, the competition was changed to an interval start due to insufficient snow. Karsrud recorded lap times of 13:23.6, 27:45.4, and 42:22.1, finishing with a total time of 57:17.1. He finished second behind Skylar Patten from Michigan Tech, who completed the race in 56:20.0 on his home course.

Fricker added a bronze medal to his achievements with lap times of 13:37.8, 27:43.4, and 42:20.3, crossing the finish line at 57:24.1. Fricker started with the fifth fastest time but moved up to second place during laps two and three before being overtaken by Karsrud.

Hendrik Peterson was another notable performer for NMU, finishing sixth with a time of 58:25.5 after improving his position each lap from ninth place initially.

Mathias Haugen finished tenth with a time of 1:00:09.9, while Jonathan Clarke came in thirteenth and Cooper Lennox placed twenty-ninth.

In terms of team standings for day two:

- MTU led with scores of D1M (55), D2M (53), totaling (108).

- NMU followed with D1M (47), D2M (52), totaling (99).

- CSS had scores of D1M (27), D2M (22), totaling (49).

- UWGB scored D1M (21), D2M (23), totaling (44).

Overall team standings were:

- MTU leading with a total score of 212.

- NMU closely behind with a total score of 205.

- CSS totaled at 116.

- UWGB ended with a score of 69.

Next on the schedule for NMU is the NCAA Skiing Championships in Steamboat, Colorado on March 7 and March 9.
