The Wildcats faced a challenging game against Ferris State, the reigning national champions, on Saturday. The match concluded with a 78-3 loss for the Wildcats.

Ferris State quickly took control of the game. They scored early with a 15-yard run by Mylik Mitchell following a three-play, 66-yard drive. Soon after, Mitchell connected with Xavier Wade for a 35-yard touchdown pass, making it 13-0 within four minutes of play.

The Wildcats attempted to respond, showing promise with a 15-yard scramble by Mariano Valenti. However, they were stopped short on a fourth-and-one attempt, resulting in a turnover on downs.

Ferris State capitalized on their advantageous field position with another touchdown by Carson Gulkner, increasing their lead to 20-0. Wade added another score with a 38-yard reception before the end of the first quarter.

Despite brief moments of offensive progress from NMU, Ferris State continued to dominate. Trinidad Chambliss, Emari O'Brien, and Wade each contributed touchdowns to extend the lead to 48-0. The Wildcats managed to score late in the half with a 42-yard field goal by Mike Karlen. Chambliss responded with his second touchdown of the game just before halftime, making it 55-3.

In the third quarter, Ferris State maintained their momentum with additional scores from Gulkner and Zamir Lundy-Knighten. A safety brought the score to 71-3 at the end of the third quarter.

The Bulldogs completed their scoring in the final quarter for a decisive 78-3 victory over NMU.

This result tied an unfortunate record for NMU as they conceded 78 points, matching their program-high for points allowed in a game. Additionally, Ferris State's rushing total of 497 yards set another record against NMU's defense.

Looking ahead, NMU will travel downstate again next weekend to face Davenport Panthers on Saturday, October 7th at 2 p.m.
