Dave Shyiak and the Northern Michigan University hockey team secured their first victory of the 2024/25 season, defeating the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves 2-1 at the Berry Events Center. The game marked a successful home opener for NMU.

Tanner Latsch initiated scoring for the Wildcats in the first period, maintaining his impressive performance from last season. He has accumulated two goals and three points in three games this season, bringing his career total to nine goals and 11 points in 11 games.

Medrick Bolduc scored his first collegiate goal in the second period, which became the decisive goal of the match. Senior goalie Ryan Ouellette earned his first win as a Wildcat with 31 saves, including 13 in the third period.

The Wildcats now stand at 1-2-0 for the season and aim to even their record with another game scheduled tomorrow night at Berry Events Center, starting at 6:07 PM.

"Medrick Bolduc scored his first career collegiate goal in his first career game," said a post-game report. "Ryan Ouellette earned his first career win, making 31 saves."

In addition to Bolduc's achievement, Tynan Ewart recorded his first point as a Wildcat with an assist. Ryan Duguay also contributed an assist.

During gameplay analysis, Ewart intercepted a pass on his own blueline before advancing toward Anchorage's end. A series of passes involving Duguay led to Latsch scoring past Krivtsov's glove hand. The Seawolves briefly equalized early in the second period through a turnover that resulted in a two-on-one play against Ouellette.

Bolduc restored NMU's lead by capitalizing on a mistake behind Anchorage's net, securing possession from a defenseman and beating their goalie to score.
