Northern Michigan University's senior middle blocker, Meghan Meyer, has been recognized as the GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week following her performance in the first week of conference play. Meyer's defensive skills were instrumental in leading the Wildcats to victories against Parkside and Purdue Northwest.

Hailing from Ada, Michigan, Meyer achieved nine blocks over the weekend matches, with five being solo blocks. Notably, she managed six blocks against Parkside, marking a season-high and coming close to her career-best record.

"Meghan has been working so hard on her blocking this year, and it is great to see her hard work pay off this weekend," commented coach Mike Lozier. "She really was a force at the net during both matches. I know the entire team is proud of Meghan for receiving this award."

In addition to her defensive prowess, Meyer contributed significantly on offense by reaching double-digit kills in both games. She recorded a season-high 14 kills against Purdue Northwest and achieved a .643 attack percentage at Parkside, which was the second-best across the league for that weekend.

The Wildcats are set to begin a six-game conference homestand at Vandament Arena when they face Davenport on Friday, September 27 at 6:30 p.m.
