The Northern Michigan University volleyball team is preparing for another weekend of conference play. The Wildcats, who recently achieved a sweep in their opening GLIAC matches, will face Davenport on Friday at 6:30 p.m. and Ferris State on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. This marks the second weekend of home games at the new Vandament Arena.
The Wildcats hold a 6-3 overall record and are currently undefeated in conference play with a 2-0 record. Fans can follow updates via @NMU_Volleyball and @NMU_Wildcats on X (formerly known as Twitter).
Sarah Kuehn expressed optimism about the team's progress, stating, "We came off of tournament play feeling really good. We played some tough opponents and we got what we needed out of non-conference play. Growth has been a big part of our season so far and we're going to continue to see that growth."
Meghan Meyer was named GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week after contributing significantly to the Wildcats' recent victories over Parkside and Purdue Northwest. Meyer recorded nine blocks last weekend, including five solo blocks against Parkside, nearing her career-best performance.
Jacqueline Smith leads the team with 131 kills, ranking fourth in the conference. She is also approaching historical milestones within the program and Division II landscape.
McKenzie Gruner follows Smith in kills for NMU, while Allie Barlow is tied for first in service aces within GLIAC.
Northern Michigan's current three-game winning streak began with a victory over No. 7 St. Cloud State on September 14.
Davenport enters this weekend with a 2-8 overall record and an 0-2 conference standing. Abby Alan and Rachel Youngblood lead their team in kills.
Ferris State remains undefeated this season with a 9-0 record and holds top positions within various statistical categories both nationally and within GLIAC.
The Wildcats faced challenges against Ferris State last year but aim to improve upon those results this season.
